The Lord will Provide

When life throws us struggles and trials, who do we turn to and who do we seek to make things better, ourselves or God?  I hope for all its the latter, but there are sometimes even for myself that I try and get through things on my own.  Oh what a lesson God has in store for me during those periods of my life.  Hopefully this will help turn your eyes to Jesus as your one and only provider.

The Lord Will Provide
By John Newton and William Cowper

Though troubles assail, And dangers affright;
Though friends should all fail, And foes all unite,
Yet one thing secures us, Whatever betide:
The Scripture assures us, “The Lord will provide.”

—   Psalms 3 (all)  —

The birds, without barn Or storehouse, are fed;
From them let us learn To trust for our bread;
His saints what is fitting Shall ne’er be denied,
So long as ’tis written, “The Lord will provide.”

—  Matthew 6:26 – Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?

His call we obey, Like Abram of old,
Not knowing our way, But faith makes us bold;
For though we are strangers, We have a good Guide;
And trust in all dangers: “The Lord will provide.”

— Genesis 12:1 – Now the Lord said to Abram, “Go from your country and your kindred and your father’s house to the land that I will show you.”

When Satan appears To stop up our path,
And fills us with fears, We triumph by faith;
He cannot take from us, Though oft he has tried,
The heart-cheering promise, “The Lord will provide.”

— Psalm 23:4 – Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. —

He tells us we’re weak, Our hope is in vain;
The good that we seek We ne’er shall obtain;
But when such suggestions Our faith thus have tried,
This answers all questions, “The Lord will provide.”

— II Corinthians 12:9 But he (the Lord) said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.  —

No strength of our own, Nor goodness we claim;
Our trust is all thrown On Jesus’ dear name.
In this our strong tower For safety we hide;
The Lord is our power, “The Lord will provide.”

— Psalm 18:2-3 – The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold. I call upon the lord, who is worthy to be praised, and I am saved from my enemies. —

When life sinks apace, And death is in view,
The word of His grace Shall comfort us through;
Not fearing or doubting, With Christ on our side,
We hope to die shouting, “The Lord will provide.”

— Psalm 23:5-6 – You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.  —
