Getting ready for the RED

I wrote this a little while back and never got it posted. More of a thing for me to read, but enjoy if you stumble upon this.

Alright, I’m sure everyone has heard of the new website, “Red Out Around the World . com” and possibly the hype that is starting to surround that video and site.  The site is suppose to be for the game against Texas on the 16th of October this year.  I actually thought right-off-the-bat that it was just something for the last year in the Big Twelve or something, and the only part on the video and the site in general is the date (and BEAT TEXAS) that they have published on the site.  No big deal…

My take… its a really cool video that definitely got me hyped up for the whole year, not just one game and it’s not that obvious that it’s for the game against Texas. Ok, it’s got the date and i guess it says beat Texas, but that’s pretty much it… the video sure doesn’t say anything, or it does and I don’t want to put the hype into the site.  I am totally fine with the establishment that has become the Huskers, to have this going for the year.  I know for sure that Washington is going to be a big game and Kansas State will probably be tough as well, so the first five games before Texas will not be a breeze at all. And Bo Pelini will definitely not let his players look anywhere other than right where they are right now heading into camp/fall practices and possibly the first game against Western Kentucky.

Here are some other points of view by a couple guys in Nebraska and one guy from ESPN. If you go on to the next video or so after the Red Out Around the world, it talks about Pat Forde’s post and  this whole situation.  I agree with a small part of what Pat said in the article, but some of the stuff in there is just outrageous.  Saying we are like Dan Gilbert from the Cleveland Cavilers, that’s over stepping the bounds.  And having this video be a sharp shot at Texas is asking a little too much as well.  I’m pretty sure Texas has had a Bull’s-eye on it self for the last ten years in the Big Twelve conference, by winning and being their very own special self.  I have a lot more to say about Texas and all that has happened over the last few months with the Big Twelve-Pac 10-Big 10 situation, but I don’t even want to hear my ranting anymore.  It is pretty funny that Pat had to go to a message board from months back just to get something bad about us as fans, and it was probably the one fan that thinks everyone is against the Huskers (which is not at all like the majorities of Husker fans out there), so that is what you will get.

Coach Bo Pelini and Athletic Director Tom Osborne were both unhappy about the website and the single direction to the date of October 16th and the words beat Texas.  The words beat Texas has now been taken off of the site.

The purpose of Red Out Around the World is to connect, celebrate and salute Husker fans across the globe for their unparalleled support. We want to showcase the depth and breadth of support from Nebraska fans. We hope that all fans, wherever they may be around the world, will visit the Red Out Around the World website often from mid-August to mid-October and participate in the Red Out.”  – Tom Osborne, Nebraska Athletic Director

Mark Schlabach of ESPN sure does like the hype and the website/video… he made our game the top hottest rivalries in 2010.   Take that one Pat…
