One of the guys that I meet with regularly asked me this question during one of our times meeting together. I really wanted to be like… Eagles are amazing, espically bald eagles, and to get to see them up close and personal in Alaska, it was such a great experience. They are all over the place, trying to steal the fish that you catch on the beach and flying around your head, either downtown or somewhere along the ocean shore… but I knew he probably wasn’t asking about that (even those Alaska is one of the coolest things to talk about).
In the Bible it talks a few time about eagles and wings, but there isn’t much background on those verses (you probably can be able to find info in different commentaries). Here are a few verses :
“But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.”
“Who satisfies you with good so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.”
There are two different interpretations that I can take from God using the illustration of eagles and wings. One is that we, as followers of Christ, are apart of Heaven and Godly things, not in sin with the devil like a snake on the ground. The eagle soars high above in the sky and is very graceful as it glides from here to there, but is also very strong with its powerful wings and sharp talons. In God’s hands and guidance we can do His work with the strength of an eagle’s and be with Him in Paradise.
The second is sort of an illustration that I saw played out on the banks of Alaska. Eagles would swoop towards the ocean, sometimes grabbing with their talons, the fish that would be swimming near the surface for food. There would be times where the eagles would get greedy in their pursuit for food and, hitting the water, not be able to fly away because of their wings becoming too wet and heave for the eagles to use them. The eagles would then have to some-how swim back to the beach and dry off before they could get back to the air, and there would be other predators that would have a good advantage while the eagle was in the water and drying off. We are like the eagles, with the power from God, fishing for men that He wants in His kingdom. The water is sin, and how sometimes it consumes us so much so that we can only think about that and not what our main purpose is, which is to glorify God in all that we do. The predators are those looking to seduce Christians with other religions or just into the sinful life style they are accustomed to. The predators can also be the Devil and his demons, just like 1 Peter 5:8.
I want to live my life in the air, not wading through the water.
