The Gospel in Christmas

Jesus Christ, the gospel, has given us a chance to live with Him in eternity, if we just take a step of faith and believe that He is God and came to save us from our sins.  We think of Jesus as a baby boy, and that is what He came to earth as, but His main purpose was living a life for us to follow (knowing that we aren’t perfect and don’t have to be) and dying on the cross to take the punishment of our sins on His shoulders so that we could have a close relationship with Him and God the Father.

Here is a Christmas card that spells the gospel out in a beautiful way.

For to us a Child is Born

“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given;

and the government shall be upon his shoulder,

and his name shall be called Wonderful,

Counselor,

Mighty God,

Everlasting Father,

Prince of Peace.

Of the increase of his government and of peace there will be no end,

on the throne of David and over his kingdom,

to establish it and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness

from this time forth and forevermore.”   Isaiah 9:6-7a

Less of me, more of you

Shane and Shane has a song entitled The Answer.  It speaks to what I want my heart wants to say, but what I have not been living for lately.  You can listen to the song here.

I’ve tried more of me and I’ve come up dry

trading You for things, things that go away

my happiness is found in less of me and more of You

my happiness is found in less of me and more of You

i have found the answer is to love You and be loved by You alone

alright! alright! alright!

You crucify me and the world to me and i will only boast in You

alright! alright! alright!

O’ so satisfied at the thought of You

growing up in me covering everything

my happiness is found in less of me and more of You

my happiness is found in less of me and more of You

i have found the answer is to love You and be loved by You alone

You crucify me and the world to me and i will only boast in You

alright! alright! alright!

You are, You are (loved by me)

You are, You are (You’re loved by me)

So many times I try to do things on my own, and fall short of anything that I want to accomplish.  I look to myself and not to Jesus, who is always there to help when you seek His face and for His glory.  I know what I should do and it is what I want to do, but so many times I let my thoughts and the thoughts of Satan come into my mind and heart. They tell me to go my own way, making it seem to be the easier and quicker way of doing things.  This is totally false and a complete lie, and one that Satan finds full enjoyment; when God’s children stray and go their own way.  I still have hope and there is hope for you as well, those that feel the same as I do, because of the story of The Prodigal Son.  God will and does take us back, when we repent and acknowledge that we need Him more than anything else.

I know I need Him to help me through this life, cause trying by myself has not gotten me far at all, maybe a little bit lower in the ground.  He can and will pick me up and carry me to a place that will allow me to go on with life as I follow Him to life ever-after.

A watchman for Israel

A friend and I were talking the other day about the lost and how we are supposed to keep a careful watch on what we do, how we think towards the lost and if we are trying to do it in our strength or the Lord’s.  We were talking about friends and those that don’t know Him, and I said that I was afraid that they would come to know the Lord and be with Him forever.  She used the example from Ezekiel 3:18-21 about not telling those and warning them of the upcoming disaster that awaits them.

“18 If I say to the wicked, ‘You shall surely die,’ and you give him no warning, nor speak to warn the wicked from his wicked way, in order to save his life, that wicked person shall die for his iniquity, but his blood I will require at your hand. 19 But if you warn the wicked, and he does not turn from his wickedness, or from his wicked way, he shall die for his iniquity, but you will have delivered your soul. 20 Again, if a righteous person turns from his righteousness and commits injustice, and I lay a stumbling block before him, he shall die. Because you have not warned him, he shall die for his sin, and his righteous deeds that he has done shall not be remembered, but his blood I will require at your hand. 21 But if you warn the righteous person not to sin, and he does not sin, he shall surely live, because he took warning, and you will have delivered your soul.” Ezekiel 3:18-21

I do believe that we need to share the gospel with everyone we know, but not because of being scared into it, thinking that if we don’t everything will be on our shoulders.  We should share with everyone because it is the affect of an overflow of Christ’s love in us and the willingness to be sent out to tell everyone, even those that are closest to us.  What I don’t believe, is that there are prophets in today’s world, where there were prophets back in the Old Testament times.  I am not saying that there might not be people who have the gift of Prophecy, but it would not be in the same context as the prophets in Old Testament times.  God spoke to them and used them to speak for Him, where today we have Jesus Christ and God speaks through Him to talk to us, as well as, using the Holy Spirit to help us proclaim Jesus and what Jesus said.  We are called to tell those about Christ, which is different from the prophets having to tell people exactly what God, Himself, said towards their lives and what they should do.

Ezekiel 3:16-17 “16 And at the end of seven days, the word of the Lord came to me: 17 “Son of man, I have made you a watchman for the house of Israel. Whenever you hear a word from my mouth, you shall give them warning from me.” In verse 15, it says that Ezekiel came to the people that God had told him to go to, and became overwhelmed at the sin that he saw there and sat there for seven days.  God had told him exactly what to do, and Ezekiel wasn’t really doing it. I assume that he was probably thinking that this couldn’t work at all with what he had to say and where those people were in their sin. God gave him stern warning that he was the only one that could speak to them, because God had elected him as the watchman of Israel and those people were still apart of Israel.  I have tried to talk to my friends about Christ and Him crucified, but they usually don’t want to listen and change to subject.  My fear is that they are not called by God to be a child of Him, not that I haven’t done enough or nothing at all, but that God hasn’t chosen them or elected them into His kingdom.  I know I can’t decided for God who He should give grace and allow into His kingdom and I know He has totally control over all life, it just hurts to know that people that I love might and probably will not be in Heaven when they die.

We all need to continue to spread the great message of Jesus and what His death on the cross means for all of us, but maybe look to the New Testament for verses to spur you on to share with others.  Passages like Hebrews 3:12-13 and 2 Timothy 4:1-5 would be good to look at.

Worldwide focus

This is a quote from Vonette Bright about the World and how we as Christians are in the Prime position and time to reach out and gather in the harvest:

The Lord has impressed me so much this summer with the thought that Campus Crusade for Christ has come into existence “for such a time as this.” Other Christian organizations, I trust, are sensing the same call.  The whole world, and especially the United States, is floundering for a lack of godly and biblical understanding and direction. So many people no longer know who God is and what it means to depend upon His direction. Our mission, along with the rest of the body of Christ, is to tell them…  When Steve Douglass explained about the technology of satellites of communication now being put into place, making it possible for every person on planet Earth to be contacted, it would seem, most certainly, the message of God’s love and forgiveness will be able to be heard by every person… Campus Crusade for Christ now has a staff member or a representative in most corners of the world. If we are not there, another organization is. Hallelujah! “This is no time for business as usual.” Quote by Bill Bright… God directed me to Psalm 112. “Light shines in the darkness for the godly. They are generous, compassionate, and righteous. Good comes to those who lend money generously and conduct their business fairly. Such people will not be overcome by evil. Those who are righteous will be long remembered. They do not fear bad news; they confidently trust the LORD to care for them. They are confident and fearless and can face their foes triumphantly. They share freely and give generously to those in need. Their good deeds will be remembered forever. They will have influence and honor. The wicked will see this and be infuriated. They will grind their teeth in anger; they will slink away, their hopes thwarted.”… I believe the future of our country and the world is in the hands of godly believers. The way we live and express our faith will make a difference in our world. The future has never looked brighter! Oh, God, anoint us for the task and keep us faithful.

Crusade is using Global Media Outreach to reach the world through the internet. Pretty interesting, check it out.

here are a couple more sites about Being a World Christian and how some aren’t focusing on the Global Mission. All of us need to do our part to bring “every tribe and language and people and nation” (Rev. 5:9b, 7:9, 14:6) “and this gospel of the kingdom will be proclaimed throughout the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.” Matthew 24:14.

Let us work for His glory, whether it is at home or around the world.

Football without God

What a tragedy if someone is like this, and I know of plenty that are in this position.  I saw a really good quote from someone on this subject and it caught my interests. He said that if he didn’t have Christ in his life, he would have probably killed himself after the tragic defeat that happened against the Husker football team Yesterday, the 19th of September, 2009.  (I won’t post a link to inflict more pain, its OK) I love sports and I love football, but I especially love Husker football.  Back in the day I would have flipped out with the loss that we had, but as I have grown older and a little more knowledgeable on how important the eternal perspective is for my life and those that are committed to Christ, not just the importance of one single football game.

Yes it was a tough loss to take, but where you will go in eternity matters with not just your life or death here on earth, but for an eternal life and eternal death.  Instead of what this loss against Va Tech, pretty much inflicted by our team, means to your week, what does spending eternity without Christ in Hell, lonely and in darkness, mean for your life right now?

Burdened

This world a lot of times is a burden, because of the sin that has so clung to every aspect of life as we know it.  What burdens you? It could be the situation that you are in right at this moment, it could be the situations that your family are in, it could be the situations that your friends are in, or it could even encompass the world and the different horrible situations that are going about on a day to day basis.

In the first chapter of Nehemiah, He is heart-broken and has a burden for the city of Jerusalem and their walls, not just because of that fact, but because of the people in the city and their protection.

4″As soon as I heard these words I sat down and wept and mourned for days, and I continued fasting and praying before the God of heaven. 5And I said, ‘O Lord God of heaven, the great and awesome God who keeps covenants and steadfast love with those who love him and keep his commandments, 6let your ear be attentive and your eyes open, to hear the prayer of your servant that I now pray before you day and night for the people of Israel your servants, confessing the sins of the people of Israel, which we have sinned against you.  Even I and my father’s house have sinned. 7We have acted very corruptly against you and have not kept the commandments, the statutes, and the rules that you have commanded your servant Moses. 8Remember the word that you commanded your servant Moses, saying, ‘If you are unfaithful, I will scatter you among the peoples, 9but if you return to me and keep my commandments and do them, though your dispersed be under the farthest skies, I will gather them from there and bring them to the place that I have chosen, to make my name dwell there.’ 10They are your servants and your people, whom you have redeemed by your great power and by your strong hand. 11O Lord, let your ear be attentive to the prayer of your servant, and to the prayer of your servants who delight to fear your name, and give success to your servant today, and grant him mercy in the sight of this man.”   Nehemiah 1:4-11a

A few days ago, I was walking back from my time on campus, praying as I went.  Up to that point there had been a lot of things happening, most bad, and it was really burdening my heart.  As I prayed, I started to cry and prayed not specifically that things would get better in peoples lives, even though I did pray for that, but mostly for their hearts and their relationships with God.  There have been a few deaths, a few big marriage problems, a few sicknesses, and a few situations where priorities are put ahead of God.  I know that God is totally in control of all of these things and His heart breaks as well, but there is a purpose to all of it and God will make everything good in the end, even though we might not be able to see it for a long time.

Let us use this prayer for our own lives and for those that are close to us as well as the people of this world.  This speaks true for all of us, so lets go to God and trust in His almighty hands.
