The Gospel in Christmas

Jesus Christ, the gospel, has given us a chance to live with Him in eternity, if we just take a step of faith and believe that He is God and came to save us from our sins.  We think of Jesus as a baby boy, and that is what He came to earth as, but His main purpose was living a life for us to follow (knowing that we aren’t perfect and don’t have to be) and dying on the cross to take the punishment of our sins on His shoulders so that we could have a close relationship with Him and God the Father.

Here is a Christmas card that spells the gospel out in a beautiful way.

A Little rest and relaxation…

Tomorrow, myself and the others living in Pretoria will be heading to Durban for a Staff Conference with all of South African Campus Crusade Staff.  The conference will be for 4 days, and then we will stay 3 days longer.  Durban is right by the Indian Ocean and the hotel where we are staying at is right by the beach, so pretty much every chance I can get I will be on the beach in some sense.  This time will be good to get a way from Pretoria for a little while, get to see some more of South Africa and to just relax for a little while.  It will hopefully be a good time to be refreshed with the Lord and with friends.

The theme for this staff conference is all about rebuilding a team and having good relations with one another.  It is also about how to have things be of a healthy nature and feeling of importance for each person.  There has been some big issues within Crusade here in South Africa, leaving a lot of the staff feeling disrespected and not important, as well as just not feeling excited about doing the work set before them.  Please pray that this week will be enlightening and fulfilling of what God wants to happen during this time.  Pray that hearts will be mended and relationships will be restored.  Thanks!

Looking Towards L-O-V-E

I got this in an email from a friend of mine a couple of years ago, not really sure why he sent it or why I was asking him to send it, but when I read back through it, I really liked what it had to say and showed me some of what I was doing in that area.

Everyone longs to give themselves completely to someone – to have a deep soul relationship with another, to be loved exclusively and thoroughly… But God, to a Christian says, no; not until you’re satisfied and content with being loved by Me alone. I love you, my child. You must discover that only in Me is your satisfaction to be found. You will never be united with another until you are united with Me – exclusive of any other desires or longings. I want you to stop planning… stop wishing… allow Me to bring it to you. Just keep watching Me expecting the greatest things. Keep experiencing that satisfaction knowing that I AM. Keep learning and listening to the things I tell you. You must wait. Don’t be anxious. Don’t look at the things you think you want. You must keep looking off and away, up to Me or you’ll miss what I have to show you.

And then, when you are ready, I’ll surprise you with a love far more wonderful than any you would ever dream. You see, until you are ready and until the one I have for you is ready, I am working even this minute, to have you both ready at the same time. Until you are satisfied exclusively with Me and the life I have prepared for you, you won’t be able to experience the love that exemplifies your relationship with me… and this is true love.

God calls us to love Him first and foremost.  If we love others more than Him, he calls it idolatry.   Matthew 10:37 says “Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me, and whoever loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.” That’s harsh, but God is just explaining that He is the only thing that matters. “May the Lord direct your hearts to the love of God and to the steadfastness of Christ.” 1Thes. 3:5 And when that happens in our life, He will then give us what we need.  “But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” Matthew 6:27
